Belle Williams is a speed demon. Flying through the streets of New York in her tricked-out taxi, she's earned a rep as New York's fastest cabbie. But driving a hack is only a pit stop for her real dream: Belle wants to be a race car champion. And she's well on her way–until she's derailed by overeager cop Andy Washburn, whose undercover skills are matched only by his total ineptitude behind the wheel. Washburn, whose lack of vehicular skills has landed him in the precinct doghouse, is hot on the heels of a gang of beautiful Brazilian bank robbers, led by Vanessa, their cold, calculating–and leggy–leader. To nab the evasive crooks, drivers license-less Washburn convinces Belle to team up with him to pursue Vanessa and crew. Belle has carte blanche to drive at any speed and break any law. The car-less cop and speed-demon cabbie–New York's unlikeliest partners– begin a high-speed game of cat and mouse with the robbers. That is, if Belle and Washburn don't end up killing each other first. A mouthy and feisty taxicab driver has hot tips for a green and inept cop set on solving a string of New York City bank robberies committed by a quartet of female Brazilian bank robbers. I thought this movie was so funny… A movie where the guys are girls… and the woman are seen playing roles and jobs where usually only men play them. The movie is fast and funny, "The fast and furious" mixed with a bit of "Bringing down the house". An interesting view at how people from totally different backgrounds meet in a situation that brings them together and they grow a friendship and help each other out to become better people in themselves. Washburn can drive now, and Williams gets to race, something she only dreamt of, and worked her whole life for. Sexy women as the bad "guys", a cab driver acting like a cop, a women as a lieutenant, and a man who shouldn't even be a cop, let alone have his license, an interesting combination to create one hell of a movie! This movie is only the shadow of the original. Nice girls (except one:) but nothing else- no new ideas, it's just a boring English remake with cheaper artists. Neither they just didn't looked for a fat enough stunt… I do NOT recommend this movie, except if you didn't seen the french version. Maybe it's too difficult to realize a Luc Besson movie without Luc Besson. The American artists at this level are simply not enough talented to even make me laugh. Also, the screenplay (re)writer tried to not copy the original, and his tries was funny- Brazilian girls instead of German men, female taxi driver with loving boyfriend instead of male driver with hot girlfriend - the writer tried to use the negative of everything, but it's not a remake, it's the style of a child who copies his friends lesson. Bad movie! Throughout this Americanization of the Luc Besson–scripted French hit, Latifah itches to check her watch, Fallon appears mortified, and only Ann-Margret mainlines any comic adrenalin.
